How many things do you take for granted in your everyday life?
Probably a lot more than you realise. Then again, that’s part of what it means to take something for granted. But just for fun, here are a few items that many people routinely take for granted:
- Plenty of coffee on hand to satisfy your morning need
- No problems with your TV, Cable network, or streaming service when a top sporting event is about to air.
- Your washing machine worked yesterday, therefore it will work today.
- Time for a shower? You’re set for a perfect experience, just like always.
Items 1-3 we can discuss some other time. For now, let’s focus our attention on item #4. That’s because, if you’ve lived in your home long enough, you have almost certainly been relegated to at least a partially cold shower every so often. You know, like when one second the water pressure and temperature are fine, the next moment they’re not, and then a few seconds later, everything’s back to normal. Of course, that assumes you had enough patience to let “normal” return.
The problem is caused by a sudden drop in water pressure no doubt caused by someone flushing a toilet while you’re in the shower. For those few seconds, the cold water from your shower is being redirected to the toilet since they’re both on the same water supply line. So, cold water leaves the shower and water becomes excruciatingly hot, however briefly.
If that sounds familiar, here’s a quick and painless remedy. Turn the toilet’s shut-off valve clockwise, but not all the way to the closed position. This will cause the tank to fill up at a slower rate without any decrease in flushing pressure.
If that doesn’t solve the problem, you might have a faulty pressure regulator, and that’s a job for the professional at Swan’s Complete Plumbing. If expert diagnosis and remedies you can count on for all your household plumbing needs, contact us today or any time at all.
