What's Typically Involved at Rough-in

  • Water supply pipes and capped stub-outs at every relocated or new fixture point
  • Drain and vent lines re-routed and laid to the correct fall
  • Gas rough-in for relocated cooktops or heating points, where required
  • Temporary water shut-off planning if you are living in the home during works

Tapware, toilets, basins and appliances are installed later, during fit-off.

What to Expect When You Book With Us

We assess your existing plumbing and new layout, then provide a written quote with no surprises.

We coordinate scheduling with your builder, electrician or waterproofer, so rough-in fits neatly into your renovation timeline rather than causing delays.

We safely isolate the water supply to the work area, keeping disruption to the rest of the house to a minimum.

We run new or relocated water supply, drainage and gas lines to your new fixture positions.

Every stub-out is capped and pressure tested before walls or floors are closed in.

We clear the work area and confirm everything is ready for the next trade or fit-off stage.

In most cases, yes. We plan temporary water shut-offs around your household's needs and section off the work area to limit disruption to the rest of the home.

Plumbing Rough-in Pricing Scenarios

Every plumbing rough-in job is different, so pricing varies from job to job. A few factors tend to drive variations in cost, from how many fixture points are involved to whether the work is on a stud or external brick wall. The scenarios below give a general sense of how these factors play out in practice.

Here are a few recent Perth renovation jobs to give you a realistic idea of the price range:

  • Bathroom rough-in, Dianella – $1,995.40. The toilet was moved to a new position on a concrete floor, requiring the concrete to be cut and dug out, a new 100mm drain installed, and the shower mixer and shower head relocated. New water and waste connections were also installed, with everything pressure tested before the floor was reinstated.
  • Ensuite rough-in, Halls Head – $2,846.80. Hot and cold water were relocated for a new vanity, along with a new 40mm waste through a single-brick wall. The brick had to be chased to accommodate the pipework, with puddle flanges installed and everything tested before the job was completed.
  • Full bathroom rough-in, Bayswater – $3,745.50. Four fixture points were created from the customer’s layout, including new drainage for the toilet, shower, vanity and floor waste, plus new hot and cold water lines and isolation valves. The fit-off was quoted separately for completion after tiling and cabinetry.
  • Kitchen renovation, Bayswater – $5,208.50. This was completed across three stages: disconnecting and safely capping the existing water and gas services before demolition, roughing in new gas, water and waste connections, then returning for the final fit-off once the cabinetry and benchtop were installed. Gas testing and a Certificate of Compliance were also included.

FAQ

Yes. We regularly work directly with owner-builders and renovators, not just registered builders. We can liaise with you on scheduling, talk through your layout before quoting, and coordinate around other trades you have booked, the same way we would on a builder-managed site.

A rough-in is the first stage of plumbing installation, when the water supply, drainage and other required pipework is positioned before walls, floors and cabinetry are finished. The pipes and connection points are left ready for fixtures such as sinks, toilets and tapware to be installed during the later fit-off stage.

In most cases, yes. We plan temporary water shut-offs around your household's needs and section off the work area to limit disruption to the rest of the home.

Yes. A licensed plumber under WA law must carry out any work connecting to Perth's water supply, drainage or gas system. Unlicensed work is an offence, carries significant penalties, and can affect your renovation's compliance sign-off and insurance.

As early as possible, ideally before you finalise your kitchen, bathroom or laundry layout. Bringing us in at the design stage means we can flag any fixture relocations that involve concrete cutting, coring or rerouting through existing walls, so those costs are built into your budget from the start rather than discovered once demolition is underway.
